Service Packs for CARL
“Service Packs” are collections of bug-fixes and security patches for Microsoft products. CARL requires that your computers are at a minimum level of Service Pack for both the Operating System and Word (or Office), as detailed below.
Service Packs for Microsoft Windows:
To view current SP level, right-click Start -> My Computer -> Properties. The SP level is displayed underneath the Operating System type.

To upgrade (free) click on www.microsoft.com/updates and
select “Windows Updates” on the right hand side of the screen. Click the
“Express” option and follow on-screen instructions. Repeat this step until it
reports that all updates have been applied.
Service Packs for Microsoft Word:
To view current SP level, click Start -> Microsoft Word -> Help -> About. The SP level is displayed to the right of the version, e.g. “Word 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3)”.
